Positioning the chest strap

The AutoZone heart rate monitor continuously measures heart rate with ECG accuracy and displays this on the heart rate receiver as beats per minute, along with the percentage of maximum heart rate, making the AUTOZONE very easy to use.  All you have to do is enter either your age or maximum heart rate, and AUTOZONE does the rest for you, programming all the Heart rate target zones and calculating the percentage of maximum heart rate.

BEFORE YOU START AN EXERCISE PROGRAM, YOU ARE ADVISED TO CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR.

GETTING STARTED

♥-When it is not in use, the AUTOZONE LCD will display OFF

♥- A long press (greater then 2 seconds) of the SELECT key will switch the watch receiver ON.  The display will now show a heart symbol and a 0 (zero) on the heart rate digits.

♥- When a signal is received from the chest transmitter, the heart symbol will start to flash in time with the heart rate.  After a few beats, the calculated heart rate will appear.

♥- If the heart rate is below the Lo (low) limit of the currently selected heart rate zone, the down arrow will be flashing and, if the audio is enabled, a deep will sound at each heart rate.

♥- Similarly if the heart rate is above the Hi (high) limit, the up arrow will flash and, if the audio is enabled, a beep will sound at each heart rate.

♥- If the heart rate is between the Lo (low) and Hi (high) limits, i.e. within the selected heart rate zone, both arrows will appear but no beeps will be emitted.

Only after an age or maximum heart rate has been entered will the AutoZone’s be available.  The percentage display will also remain blank until an age or maximum heart rate has been entered.

SETTING THE PERSONAL PARAMETERS

The personal parameters, which can be set, are:

♥- User’s age or maximum heart rate

♥- Active heart rate zone selection

♥- Upper and lower limits of the manual heart rate zone

SETTING AGE OR MAXIMUM HEART RATE

Enter your age or maximum heart rate if this is known.

♥- AGE: If age is entered the maximum heart rate is calculated from:

220- age = Maximum heart rate in beats per minute

♥- MAXIMUM HEART RATE: enter this if it has been established through a recent fitness assessment, or given to you on medical recommendation.

This value is then used for the automatic setting of the boundaries of five heart rate zones.

♥-When in the heart rate monitoring screen, pressing the SELECT key enters the Active Heart Rate Zone Selection Screen.

♥- A further press of the SELECT key enters the age/maximum heart rate entry screen.

♥- Pressing the ADJUST key changes the number displayed.  If the number is 99 or less AUTOZONE interprets this as the user’s maximum heart rate.

♥- When increasing the age by pressing the ADJUST key, advancing beyond the end of the age range at 99 causes the display to advance to the bottom of the maximum heart rate range at 121.

AUTOMATIC ZONE SETTING

♥- When the user’s age or maximum heart rate has been entered, AUTOZONE sets the lower and higher boundaries of all five heart rate zones automatically.

The five zones are:

Zone 1             50 to 59% MHR            Health level 1

Zone 2             60 to 69% MHR            Health level 2

Zone 3             70 to 79% MHR            Fitness level 1

Zone 4             80 to 89% MHR            Fitness level 2

Zone 5             90 to 100% MHR            Advanced level

MHR= Maximum Heart Rate

SELECTING THE ACTIVE HEART RATE ZONE

♥- When in the main heart rate monitoring screen, a press of the SELECT key causes entry to the Heart Rate Zone Election Screen.

Zones 1 to 5                 Set of 5 auto zones

Zone M                        Single manual zone

♥- The currently selected heart rate zone (M or 1 to 5) will be displayed. By pressing the ADJUST key you can select the zones in sequence.  The zone that is currently active as the Heart Rate Zone controls the audible and visible alarms.

♥- Heart rates below zone 1 lo (below 50% maximum heart rate) and above zone 5 Hi (100% maximum heart rate) are indicated by a flashing 1 or 5 digits respectively.

♥- Selecting Zone M sets the single manual zone, this disables the multiple zones and AUTOZONE then has only one heart rate zones with manually set Hi (high) and Lo (low) limits.  These are initially pre-set to 240/30 and by pressing the ADJUST key you can change these to your personal limits.

♥- When using your AUTOZONE in the single rate zone mode the display will show ZONE M and the current heart rate.  The up and down arrows, and audible alarm if enabled, indicate whether this heart rate is above or below the heart rate zone.

♥- When a fresh battery is installed in AUTOZONE all settings will need to be re-entered, in particular the user’s age or maximum heart rate.

SETTING HI AND LO LIMITS OF THE MANUAL HEART RATE ZONE

♥- When in the Age/Maximum Heart Rate setting screen, pressing the SELECT key enters the Hi Limit setting screen of the single manual heart rate zones.  The up arrow will be displayed and the previously set Hi Limit will be flashing.  By pressing the ADJUST key you can set the Hi Limit to your own requirements between the range of 80 to 240 bpm (beats per minute)

The percentage display shows the currently set Hi value as a percentage of your maximum heart rate (provided an age or maximum heart rate has been entered).

♥- Once you have set the Hi limit, pressing the SELECT key again enters the Lo Limit setting screen.  The down arrow will be displayed and the previously set Lo limit will be flashing.  By pressing the ADJUST key you can set the Lo limit to your own requirements between the range of 30 to Hi minus 5 bpm (beats per minute)

The percentage display shows the currently set Lo value as a percentage of your maximum heart rate (provided an age or maximum heart rate has been entered).

If you try to set the Hi limit within 5 bpm of the Lo limit, Lo will automatically reset to maintain a divide of 5 bpm between Hi and Lo.

A further press of the SELECT key returns AUTOZONE to the heart rate screen.

AUDIO HEART RATE ALARM ENABLE/DISABLE

The audible heart rate alarm is toggled ON/OFF by a long press of the ADJUST key when in the heart rate monitoring screen.  When the audible heart rate alarm is enabled, the audio annunciator will be displayed.

AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHING OFF

If no regular heart rate signal has been received from the transmitter and no keys are pressed for 2 minutes, the receiver will switch off automatically and the display will show OFF.

BIKE ADAPTER

The heart rate monitor can be mounted to bicycle handlebar or exercise equipment, using the circular foam and Velcro strap.  To fit, secure the circular foam to the handlebar or exercise equipment with the Velcro strap.  Locate the heart rate monitor around this, and fasten into the desired position with the monitor strap, taking care not to over tighten.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

♥- Thoroughly wipe your AUTOZONE heart rate receiver and transmitter, and allow the elastic strap to dry after each use.  Sore your HRM in a cool dry place

♥- Do not expose your HRM to direct sunlight for extended periods such as leaving it in a car.

♥- Do not expose your HRM to extremes of temperature above 122 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius) or below 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 degrees Celsius).

REPLACING THE TRANSMITTER BATTERY

Undo the battery hatch with a suitable coin and remove the old battery.  Ensure that the new battery is inserted into the hatch correctly with the plus sign facing the battery hatch.  Check the rubber gasket is clean, correctly fitted and not damaged, then close the hatch securely.

  REPLACING THE WATCH RECEIVER BATTERY

The watch receiver should be returned to a jewelry shop or an Authorized Cardiosport Service Center.  Please note that when a fresh battery is installed in AUTOZONE all settings are lost and need to be re-entered.

TROUBLESHOOTING

What if the heart rate reading is erratic or totally absent?

Repeat the electrode moistening procedure.  The electrodes must be moist to pick up accurate heart rate readings.

Make sure the electrodes are flat against the skin.

What if the heart rate reading becomes erratic or becomes extremely high (above 200)?

When exercising with your AUTOZONE you may come within range of other electromagnetic signals, causing the heart rate reading to elevate to abnormal levels.  Common sources of electromagnetic signals are high voltage power lines and motor driven equipment.  Signals from other people wearing transmitter belts (within 80cm) can also cause incorrect readings.  Check your surroundings and move away from the source.
